Ramadan Food Trends In Pakistan

It is a common practice in Pakistan during the holy month of Ramadan to celebrate it spiritually along with the traditional side of Ramadan culture regarding food. People are likely to follow the best food trends at the time of “sehr’ and “Aftar’. They make a variety of dishes according to their traditions and share them with their family and friends. We also share food with deserving people or less privileged.

Dates And Water:

When it comes to “Aftar” the simplest choice is date or water which is also religiously encouraged as everyone can afford it or date is the best source of instant energy , when whole day you restrain yourself from solids or liquids, your body is demanding for some energy booster so dates are the best option to break the fast and water in every form (preferred with lemon and mint or fresh juices)is the main source to hydrate our body.

Aftaar Snacks:

In the subcontinent, Muslims follow delicious food trends in snacks like pakoras (vegetable fritters) samosas,(fried snacks with vegetables) kachori(mince-filled snack) fruit chaat(fruit salad), chana chaat (chickpea salad) , dahi bhally (lentil fritters in yogurt) or other options.

Sweet Dishes And Drinks:

In Pakistan, at the time of aftaar’ people like instant energy boosters with traditional taste, Jalebi (sugar-filled snack) is one of the most liked snacks served in aftaar . It is a common street food easily available on every corner of the country. Sugary drinks like “Rooh Afza’ or “Elaichi sharbat’ is commonly made in almost every house. Fruit smoothies like strawberry or mango smoothies, lemonade, and mint margarita are healthy choices that are followed.

At Sehri time people like to have homemade simple food with yogurt and “lassi”(yogurt milk smoothie) or “cardamom drink” which are considered healthy and hydrating the body throughout the day.In some areas “pheni'(a snack made with thin flour strings) is dipped in milk and sugar is a favorite sehri dish.
